Veratridine (3-Veratroylveracevine) is a voltage-gated Na+ channel opener. Veratridine increases intracellular Ca2+ with no effect on the Na+/Ca2+ exchanger. Steroid-derived alkaloid neurotoxin. Veratridine increases membrane Na+ permeability and depolarizes excitable tissues.
