Trifluperidol hydrochloride is a dopamine receptor antagonist with antipsychotic effects and has been used in studies of schizophrenia. This neurotranquilizer penetrates the brain and also affects glial cells, leading to an increase in the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines. It also alters the metabolism of carbohydrates and amino acids in the cerebral cortex.
