Trans-crocetin (Croceic Acid) is an NMDA receptor antagonist with high affinity, extracted from saffron (Crocus sativus L.). Transcrocetin is capable of crossing the blood-brain barrier and reach the central nervous system (CNS). Transcrocetin at higher concentrations (40-160 µM) reduces significantly cellular viability.
