Thiazolidinediones (TZDs), such as rosiglitazone (RSG) and pioglitazone, are antidiabetic drugs that improve glycemia by decreasing insulin resistance through the binding and activation of the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ. Some TZDs might may also affect the activity of the γ isoform of PPAR. These receptors modulate the expression of genes involved in glucose and lipid metabolism, insulin signal transduction, inflammation and cell differentiation.
