Stiripentol can be used in the third generation of anti-epileptic studies that enhance gabaergic neurotransmission. Due to its inhibition of several cytochrome P450 enzymes, it has a wide range of pharmacokinetic interactions. Stiripentol also has neuroprotective effects, reducing calcium-mediated neurotoxicity. Stiripentol is also a compound used to study inhibition of neuronal LDH-5 isozyme activity.
