Biological Activity

In vivo, PDGF-BB is mainly produced in the heart and placenta and is mainly expressed by osteoblasts, fibroblasts, smooth muscle cells and glial cells. Inactive precursors of PDGF-BB are produced in the endoplasmic reticulum and then secreted and activated by proteinogen invertase. Pdgf-bb plays a paracrine role in promoting organogenesis, bone development and wound healing. Pdgf-bb also promotes angiogenesis, especially in the presence of basic fibroblast growth factor. Therefore, PDGF-BB and its related pathways are potential pharmacological targets.

Recombinant Mouse PDGF-BB expressed the target gene encoding Ser82-Thr190.

Measured by a cell proliferation assay using 3T3 cells, the ED50 is < 2.5 ng/ml, corresponding to a specific activity of > 4.0 × 105 units/mg.
