Nikethamide is a respiratory center activator that can increase the sensitivity of the respiratory center to carbon dioxide by exciting the respiratory center in the medulla oblongata or by stimulating the chemoreceptors in the carotid sinus and the aortic body and reflexively excites the respiratory center, and can be used in studies related to respiratory failure.
