MBX-4132 is a member of a chemical class called oxadiazoles that inhibit trans translation by binding to the bacterial ribosome. MBX-4132, which interferes with protein synthesis by blocking trans translation, has several characteristics that could make it a match for N. gonorrhoeae.
In vivo, a single oral dose of MBX-4132 cured 70 percent of mice who had multidrug-resistant gonorrhea in one animal study.
