Biological Activity

Human transferrin is a key nutrient in cultured mammalian cells. Human transferrin is composed of a 77kDa glycoprotein containing 679 amino acids. This product is the key to long term cell culture in vivo. It can bind contaminated metal ions in the medium to achieve the effect of detoxification agent. This product is often used as a nutrient in fermentation media to facilitate the production of recombinant proteins and biopharmaceuticals. Other common uses of this product are molecular weight, affinity purification of human transferrin antibody, and cell entry as a receptor-mediated transfection molecule such as DNA.

2-Deoxy-D-Glucose (2-DG) is a glucose analog that inhibits glycolysis via its actions on hexokinase, the rate limiting step of glycolysis. It is phosphorylated by hexokinase to 2-DG-P which cannot be further metabolized by phosphoglucose isomerase.
