Biological Activity

DiOC6(3)(iodide 3,3' -dihexyl carbonyl cyanine) is a carbonyl cyanine dye that can be used to detect changes in mitochondrial membrane potential. Fluorescent green. It can be used to look at cell membranes, lipids. Store at room temperature away from light. DiOC6 (3) can stain endoplasmic reticulum (Golgi apparatus) of living and fixed cells, as well as vesicle membranes and mitochondria at high concentrations. At lower concentrations, mitochondria were selectively stained. DiOC6(3) can be used to label viable cells; however, due to the rapid breakdown of photodynamic toxicity, labeled cells are exposed to light for only a short time. DiOC6(3) has been used to study the interactions and dynamics of endoplasmic reticulum (ER) structure in neurons and yeast cells. DiOC6(3) can stain the yeast nuclear membrane specifically and sensitively enough to uncover changes in the nuclear membrane (known as Karmellae) when the dye concentration is elevated or in certain respiratory defective yeast strains.
