Cyclo[Arg-Gly-Asp-D-Phe-Lys(Cys)] is a peptide that binds to integrins, a type of receptor protein on the surface of cells. It has been used in cancer research for targeting integrin receptors on tumor cells and has been shown to be effective in inhibiting tumor growth. Cyclo[Arg-Gly-Asp-D-Phe-Lys(Cys)] binds to the α2β1 integrin, which is expressed at high levels on the surface of many tumor cells. This binding inhibits cell proliferation and induces apoptosis. Cyclo[Arg-Gly-Asp-D-Phe-Lys(Cys)] has also been shown to be effective in inhibiting angiogenesis, which is the formation of new blood vessels from pre-existing ones.
