Chlortetracycline is a broad-spectrum antibiotic tetracycline with a 7-chloro substitution. It inhibits growth of both Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria by inhibiting protein synthesis.
In vitro: Chlortetracycline enhances E2 production in vitro in H295R cells consistent with increased aromatase activity and enhanced expression of CYP17, CYP19, and 3βHSD2 mRNAs. Chlortetracycline increases aromatase activity.
In vivo: Chlortetracycline enhances E2 production in vivo in male medaka fish.
