Chaetocin, a kind of natural product from Chaetomium, is a specific inhibitor of histone methyltransferase (HMT) SU (VAR) 3-9, with IC50 value of 0.6 μ M. Its IC50 to dSU (VAR) 3-9, mouse G9a and Streptospora crassa DIM5 were 0.8 μ M, 2.5 μ M and 3 μ M. It also inhibits thioredoxin reductase (TrxR) with an IC50 of 4 μM.
