Biological Activity

β-Glycerophosphate is a classical serine-threonine phosphatase inhibitor used in kinase reaction buffers. β-Glycerophosphate disodium salt hydrate is often used in combination with other phosphatase/protease inhibitors for broad spectrum inhibition. It functions as an organic phosphate donor and has been used in culture media for mesenchymal stem cell differentiation to osteoblast-type cells. BGP is also used to buffer M17 media for Lactococcus culture in recombinant protein expression.

Cell Experiment
Cell lines BVSMC bovine vascular smooth muscle cells
Preparation method BVSMCs were cultured in DMEM medium containing 10 mmol/L sodium pyruvate and 15% FBS. After confluence, the cells were seeded in DMEM containing 10 mmol/L sodium pyruvate, 15% FBS, 10 mmol/L β-glycerophosphate, 10-7 mol/L insulin and 50 μg/mL ascorbic acid, and cultured for 14 days (calcification culture) base). The medium was changed every 3 days. In some experiments, only beta-glycerophosphate was used to induce BVSMC calcification. In addition, in the time course experiment, cells were selected as controls before culturing in calcified medium (defined as day 0).
