Baicalin Extract is derived from the dried roots of Scutellaria baicalensis Georg, a plant belonging to the Lamiaceae family. It exhibits significant biological activities including antibacterial, diuretic, anti-inflammatory, cholesterol-lowering, anti-thrombotic, asthma-relieving, heat-clearing and detoxifying, and haemostatic properties. Baicalin exhibits a broad spectrum of antibacterial activity, demonstrating inhibitory effects in vitro against Shigella, Corynebacterium diphtheriae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, and Neisseria meningitidis. Baicalin Extract primarily contains baicalin, baicalein, wogonoside, baicalin, various sesquiterpene lactone glycosides and diterpene compounds, volatile oils, and trace elements. Additionally, the extract contains polysaccharides, β-sitosterol, benzoic acid, and baicalinase. Baicalin may inhibit the proliferation of rat islet cell tumours by inducing tumour cell apoptosis.
