3,3'-Diethyloxacarbocyanine iodide is a microviscosity probe for micelles and microemulsions. DiOC2(3) (3,3′-Diethyloxacarbocyanine, iodide) is a fluorescent probe for measuring membrane potential. It has been used to analyze bacterial viability by flow cytometry using fluorescence emission ratio detection.
